Unsuccessful candidate: Development Officer (Individuals) – School of Oriental and African Studies

Marta has nine years of experience in the fundraising profession, including three years in fundraising recruitment. She began her career as a major donor fundraiser at the World Resources Institute, an environmental think-tank in Washington D.C. There she was responsible for expanding the high level individual donor programme and coordinating a US$30 million appeal. In London, Marta worked as a Senior Major Donor Fundraiser for Shelter, a housing campaigning charity, where she managed a group of major individual donors and worked closely with trustees and volunteer leaders.
These experiences, together with her various consulting projects in the non-profit sector in the US, UK and Eastern Europe, have given Marta opportunities to develop strategies for major gift fundraising, annual funds and campaigns, and to manage strong relationships with high-level donors and trustees. As a result, she has an excellent understanding of fundraising goals, what organisations need from their fundraisers, and how recruitment fits within their strategic plans. Clients that Marta has worked with include the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the National Gallery, University of Nottingham, King’s College London, various Colleges in Oxford and Cambridge, and the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.
Marta has a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University in Canada and a Master of Science degree from the Central European University in Hungary. She has undertaken extensive professional training in fundraising, business and management, and has also practised as a trainee accountant with the firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
